At St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow, the season of Advent is kept until the morning service on Advent 4. Advent 4 was also the first occasion when Cedric Blakey preached at St Mary’s as Vice-Provost. After the conclusion of the service, the cathedral was transformed for Christmas. In 2009 a time lapse video was posted on YouTube.

This evening was the service of Nine Lessons and Carols. The cathedral choir was under the direction of Director of Music – Friðrik (Frikki) Walker. After the Welcome and opening prayer from Provost Holdsworth the service followed the traditional format of lessons and carols, however the narrative in the lessons began with a bit of Hebrews and then the annunciation rather than the Garden of Eden.

    The Holy Boy (John Ireland)
Prelude on Adeste Fideles (Herbert Sumsion)
