A First Sermon from Chucks

The Rev Chucks Iwuagwa

Last Sunday, the sixth Sunday in Epiphany, marked the first sermon from the Curate – The Rev Chucks Iwuagwu. From Nigeria, Chucks was licensed into the Scottish Episcopal Church to serve at St Mary’s in the Autumn of 2010.

My memory and interpretation of his sermon could never do it justice, however he made a comment the congregation being able to understand his accent. Anyone who has spent some time in Glasgow will know that the various Glaswegian accents can be difficult to understand. Chucks was easy to understand.

Chucks had a challenging set of texts to select to preach from:

  • Deuteronomy 30: 15 – 20
  • 1 Corinthians 3: 1 – 9
  • Matthew 5: 13 – 20

The sermons from St Mary’s Cathedral can be listened to and seen on the preaching page.

As always the Cathedral choir gave a first rate performance. The setting used was the Congregational setting by Richard Proulx. The anthem after communion was If ye love me by Thomas Tallis.
