In May 1979, June 1983, June 1987 and April 1992 the UK General Elections were won by the Conservative party. Following the 1992 election, a group of people started a vigil at the road to the top of Calton Hill in Edinburgh. They kept this Vigil until the day the result of the referendum for a Scottish Parliament was announced. Following this a cairn was constructed at the top of Calton Hill to mark this Vigil.
