Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord

All Souls Day when we remember those who have gone before us. Our loved ones, our friends and those who have gone before us and touched our lives.

At St Mary’s this evening the choir sang Fauré’s Requiem. The final piece of the work In Paradisum concluded the service with the choir then leaving in silence leaving the congregation at rest.

In Paradisum deducant te Angeli;
in tuo adventu suscipant te Martyres,
et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem.
Chorus Angelorum te suscipat,
et cum Lazaro qondam paupere
aeternam habes requiem.

May the Angels receive you in Paradise;
at your coming may the Martyrs receive you,
and bring you into the holy city of Jerusalem.
May the chorus of Angels receive you,
and with Lazarus, once a beggar,
may you have eternal rest.

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord
and let light perpetual shine upon them.
