Ash Wednesday 2015 – Christ and the Chocolaterie

For Lent 2015, I am following the book Christ and the Chocolaterie by Hilary Brand. Originally published in 2002, this book provides a five part course.

Christ and the Chocolaterie

Christ and the Chocolaterie

This course is based on the 2001 film Chocolat in which the main plot concerns the opening a chocolate shop just before the start of Lent, and the mixed emotions of the people of the town. If you have read the book that the film was adapted from there are plot differences.

The main thrust of the course is how a change is your life can be driven by giving up. How many of you give up chocolate for Lent, only to over indulge on Easter Day and go back to your old ways?

The five stages are:

Giving Up – The Prelude to Change
Giving Out – The Power of a Gift
Getting Wise – The Possibility of Change
Getting Real – The Power of Acceptance
Growing Up – The Process of Change

Throughout Lent, I will give you my take on these stages and I commend you to read the book and watch the film.
