Lent 1 – Giving Up: The Prelude to Change

The first of my thoughts from Christ and the Chocolaterie which in turn uses the film Chocolat

The first section is about Giving Up and using it as the prelude to making a change in your life.

So why do you want to give something up for Lent? What are wanting to achieve? Are you using the process of giving up to make a change to your life or to make a show?

In the film Chocolat, the Comte de Reynard (Mayor of Lasquenet) is sitting in his study refusing food. He feels it is wrong for the Vianne’s chocolate shop to be opening in the town just before Lent as it is a temptation that the townsfolk will not be able to resist. What is his motive for fasting over Lent? He is rewriting the new parish priest’s sermons to promote his message. Why, what is hid motive? He is disapproving of what the priest is singing whilst clearing snow.

Vianne has given up her life elsewhere and is making a new life with her new Chocolate Shop in Lasquenet. She is making a change to her life. Little does she know the change she is to make in her new home town.
