A sunny Sunday afternoon found us in Brighton. Our friend Beth was running her first marathon. Our plan was to see her finish the race and subsequently meet up with her. Travelling down from London on an early afternoon train got us into Brighton around 2:30pm (slightly delayed due to a points failure at East Croydon).
This was the first time we had been to the English Channel shore at Brighton. The first sight was the East, now the only open, Pier.
Looking west the framework of the West Pier is still standing.
A short walk past the entrance to the extant Brighton Pier took us to the 26 mile marathon marker.
And so to Beth and her Marathon run, we positioned ourselves just by the 26 mile mark on Marine Parade. Waiting for her to arrive runners passed us including some in costumes. One runner in a rhino outfit caught our eye.
Around 3:30pm Beth can into view striding out the last few metres.
30 minutes or so later she had been processed through the finishing process, been given her medal and finishers’ pack.
We had been following her progress on the Brighton Marathon App, and this is a screenshot of her finishing statistics.
Update: 13 April 2015
Beth has “recovered” and has posted the Race Report of her first marathon.
