Glasgow Bikers Easter Egg Run

Over the past few years there has been an Easter Run from the SECC to Yorkhill Children’s Hospital to deliver easter eggs. In 2008 there were over 8,000 bikes in the cavalcade.

The route takes the bikers past St Mary’s Cathedral, and Provost Kelvin Holdsworth has greeted (or blessed – depending on your point of view) the bikers as they past. Kelvin blogged about it on 8 April 2007 and 22 March 2008.

However in 2009, it will not be happening. The event has been called off.

It is a great disappointment. The St Mary’s congregation have waved the bikers on their way. In 2008 one of the congregation – Layclerk – took part, stopping at the Cathedral for Kelvin to do the necessary. His Blog gives a description of his experience of the 2008 run.

See more at the Motorcycle Action Group web site who have in their announcement have explained that the decision was regretably taken because of the construction work being carried out at the SECC.

It is hoped that the construction work at the SECC will be sufficiently advanced (or complete) to enable the 2010 Run to take place.
