Advent 3 2009 – Gaudette Sunday at St Mary’s Cathedral Glasgow

Gaudette Sunday – aka Third Sunday in Advent – saw me at St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow.

I resisted the temptation to see Kirstin modelling her Rose Vestments at All Saint’s Bearsden or St Andrew’s Milngavie. Ruth at St Mark’s in Portobello in Edinburgh was wearing Pink Shoes whilst celebrating the eucharist. What would Kelvin have thought?

Kelvin, however, was celebrating the Eucharist at St Mary’s. On a foggy and freezing Great Western Road, Kelvin and a new member of the Cathedral team – Akma Adam – were greeting the congregation.

At the beginning of the service Kelvin introduced Fr Adam Andrew – known as Akma (his initials). Akma took the role of deacon at the eucharist and preached from on a text from Isaiah and made references to William Blake’s poem – Preface to Milton – otherwise known as the words of the hymn Jerusalem. I particularly liked the way Akma used different tones of voice to illustrate various bits of his homily.

I look forward to hearing him preach again in the future.
