A brief visit to Bakewell in the Peak District. Unfortunately the rain cut short our walk round town.

Arriving from Sheffield on the A621, we parked in Granby Road. A short walk to Matlock Street and we found the first of several Bakewell Tart shops – the Bakewell Tart Coffee Shop.

As it had started to rain, we took shelter, and decided to have a drink and sample some tart.

If you are used to the massed produce facsimiles from your local supermarket, then you are in for a treat. These are nothing like the supermarket version and taste fantastic. We were offered our portions on its own, or with cream, ice cream or custard. So we had one as it came, and the other with custard.

These portions were far large than we expected, especially as we had only gone in for elevenses. Unfortunately the rain had got heavier, so after a visit to the nearest cash machine, we headed back to the car.

We need to visit when the weather is better.
